Head Instructor James Greenway
Chief Instructor James Greenway is a 6th degree black belt in the Universal Kempo Karate Schools Association system. He began his training in 1984 under the instruction of Professor Garland R. Johnson and Assistant Professor Bridget L. Johnson at the Air Force Academy Branch in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was also the Head Instructor of the Rampart Branch and the floor supervisor of the Central Branch. Instructor Greenway has more than 15 years experience as an instructor for all ages and abilities. Prior to opening the South West branch of UKKSA in 2007, Instructor Greenway completed four years active duty in the U.S. Army with the 3rd Ranger Battalion. He attributes his success in the martial arts to the training, support and guidance he received from his instructors and the founder of Universal Kempo Karate Schools Association, Grand Master Martin T. Buell. He enjoys spending time with his wife, also a Kempo Karate instructor, Marjorie and daughter Madison.
Instructor Anthea Johnson Rooen
Chief Instructor Anthea Johnson Rooen is a 5th degree black belt in the Universal Kempo Karate Schools Association. She also began her training in 1984 under the instruction of Professor Garland R. Johnson at the Air Force Academy Branch in Colorado Springs, Colorado. In 1986, she began assisting Professor Garland R. Johnson early in her training, and continued with Assistant Professor Bridget L. Johnson at the Air Force Academy Branch in Colorado Springs, Colorado when Professor Johnson took over her branch. Ms. Johnson Rooen was the head instructor of the Boulder Branch of UKKSA at C.A.T.S. Gym from 1990 to 1992. She has over 25 years of martial arts teaching experience teaching students ranging in abilities and ages. Ms . Johnson Rooen has taught a number of Women’s Self Defense and personal safety classes over the years to students of all ages, in elementary schools, colleges and businesses. Instructor Johnson Rooen also taught Cardio Kickoboxing at Dance West in Boulder, Colorado and at Better Bodies Fitness Center in Westminster, Colorado. Outside of karate, Ms. Johnson Rooen has years over 20 years of educational experience working at the University of Colorado at Boulder, Colorado. She also has over 25 year of experience working with children aged one through 17, including working as an Au Pair in Spain in 2001. She is committed to teaching student self defense and the importance of physical fitness, respect and self discipline. Ms. Johnson Rooen owes her success in the martial arts to the mentorship from and training with Professors Garland R. and Bridget L. Johnson, as well as the many outstanding instructors in Universal Kempo-Karate Schools, and the guidance of Grand Master Martin T. Buell.
